The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is developing a solar simulator for St. Kitts and Nevis. This is a web-based software tool developed by IRENA to support homeowners, businesses, and governments in evaluating the prospects for electricity generation using rooftop-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
It combines remote sensing, data processing, three dimensional (3D) building footprint generation and solar irradiation modeling to aid the assessment of rooftop solar potential. It can quicken the pace of energy planning and improve the efficiency of policy for rooftop solar PV.
At present, it covers Basseterre and its environs and goes as far as Sandy Point in the west and Cayon in the east as well as Charlestown and its environs, on Nevis. This, it can be extended to cover the entire St. Kitts and Nevis.
