Nevis has geothermal resources that are far in excess of the electricity demand of both St. Kitts and Nevis, combined. The Government intends to develop these geothermal resources. Demand for this energy will be provided through an interconnection with St. Kitts to form a single Federal grid and the production of hydrogen and related products, for export.
An energy task force, jointly managed by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy, and Utilities and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action, to oversee this transition will be set up. The Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE), and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) will assist in developing a strategy for this transition.
