About Us

The work of the Energy Unit is guided by the National Energy Policy, which is built on four pillars: energy security, universal access to energy, affordable energy, and protection of the environment. The National Energy Policy also sets a target of 100 percent of electricity being produced from renewable sources.

The work also have to function within the confines of existing energy-related legislation, which includes:

• The Electricity Supply Act, which is the legal framework for the electricity sector,
• The amendment to the electricity supply act which makes provision for the promotion of Renewable Energy Sources, and
• The Nevis Geothermal Resources Development Ordinance, which is the legal framework for the discovery, development, and production of geothermal resources in Nevis.
